Canine Crews FAQ

Have a dog day care industry-related question? We have the answer. Check out these FAQs and give us a call today for more information!

  • What do you need from me to get my dog in for day care or boarding?

The first step: fill out our new customer application. Next, we will need a copy of your dog’s current vaccinations (Bordetella, Distemper, and Rabies), along with a clean fecal in the last 6 months (last month for dogs under six months of age). Then we schedule a trial day where your dog will need to arrive at Canine Crews by 9:00 am and stay all day with pickup during our regular pick up hours. We'll introduce your dog to staff members and the other dogs and then provide feedback on how your pup does during introductions as well as in our playgroups via a report card. Once your dog’s trial day is completed, we can move forward with scheduling day care or boarding accordingly.

All steps are sent via email with easy to upload files and schedule trial days at any time.

  • Do you take puppies?

You bet we do! Puppies as young as 12-weeks-old can attend day care. We offer a Puppy Program for dogs up to eight months of age. Puppies must have their second round of boosters vaccinations to be in our playgroups.

  • What vaccinations do you require?

Rabies, Bordetella, Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and Leptospirosis (which is often combined by veterinarians as DHLPP or DHPP). We also require a clean fecal test every 6 months.

  • Do you have a separate small dog area?

You bet we do! Our small dogs and tinies have their own playrooms - Tinies are right off the lobby with plenty of play equipment and bunk-bed cots on which to rest.   Our smalls go upstairs with even more space so they can play  like the big kids and know they are in the safety of their own space.

  • Are small dogs allowed to play with the big dogs?

Typically, no. We don't mix dogs under 25 pounds with larger dogs for safety reasons.

  • Does my dog need to be spayed or neutered to attend?

Yes, we ask that dogs are spayed/neutered by six months and reserve the right to keep them out of playgroup if being intact is causing issues. We understand giant breeds and certain breeders are pushing for later spays-neuters and we promise to communicate with each owner about their dog’s behavior and if they are able to stay in group intact. Usually, at around 10 months of age, it becomes an issue when adult dogs will no longer tolerate puppy/toddler behavior with an intact dog. We have created our Advance Canine Enrichment (ACE) program for intact adult dogs.

  • May I take a tour of your facility?

Absolutely! We ask that you make a reservation so we can ensure we have a human to show you around and give you our undivided attention.  We also offer virtual tours for your convenience. Our lobby has a monitor for you to easily see our space from one spot that also keeps the dogs from reacting to strangers in their space.

  • Should I bring anything for my dog?

Day care – nothing!  If your dog requires a lunch, we'll feed them your food for free for puppies under eight months of age. For adult dogs, there's a fee to feed lunches.

Boarding – Your dog’s food, individually bagged or portioned for each meal. We ask that you leave any blankets or toys at home as we have plenty of boarding add-ons and treats to make your pup’s stay amazing. We provide raised-Kuranda cots for all dogs to sleep on during the night.

  • What if my dog doesn't like other dogs?

We created Advanced Canine Enrichment (ACE) just for your pup. Check out our MDS toggle above with all the information for our day school program for selective and/or reactive dogs. We also offer Private Care boarding optoins. We provide multiple solo potty breaks and have solo walks and playtime that can be added to any stay. We only accept a limited number of Private Care dogs at a time so we can provide them with the best care possible.

  • What kind of dogs are in day care?

All kinds of dogs at all stages of their lives attend Canine Crews. We don't restrict against breeds but we do require a full trial day to find out if your dog is a good fit for our playgroups. We have small groups and use treats and positive reinforcement so dogs cannot resource guard anything (specifically food).

  • Is there anyone there overnight?

No overnight staff but we have all types of fire & security alarms.  Our staff does a final walk-through between 8:00pm - 9:00 pm to ensure everyone has eaten and is settled in for the night. We have found that dogs relax better when left alone to sleep after a fun day of play. People walking through the facility or cleaning during night time can disrupt their sleep and it only takes one dog to keep them up all night.
